Printmaking Symposium at the Egon Schiele Art Centre, Cesky Krumlow, Czech Republic, 2008.
70 Handmade envelopes, copper plate etching.
Inspired by the town’s 700 year old history and it’s special status as a World Heritage site I researched into local myths and folklore. I then altered these stories into a puzzle and transcribed them as a letter to the viewer asking them to write to me with their tales.
The letter, like the envelopes, was created using copper plate etching.
The Egon Scheile Museum is at the heart of Cesky Krumlow a small and intriguing World Heritage site that was about to celebrate its 700 year existence.
The idea that the audience would write to me was inspired by the Museum’s visitor books.
A historical moment of hope scribed into the visitors book.
Scrafitto style in some of the town’s buildings informed parts of the final design.
